    • After install, I noticed there are some plugs that don't seem to plug in anywhere. Did I get the wrong harness?
No, it is normal to have plugs left over from your old stereo if upgrading to a Brummstadt head unit. The unit comes with its own components and antennas (GPS, 4G, microphone), so some factory plugs are simply not needed anymore. No need to worry. All core functions will work as intended. If anything doesn’t perform as expected, you can always reach out to our customer support by clicking here Chat with Human Support or send an email to service@brummstadt.com.au.
    • Why isn't my factory camera working with your unit?
Our cables are made to work with factory cameras, but sometimes they just don't. Some cameras work straight out of the box. Others may need a 12V to 6V step-down module or a different plug. In any case, contact our support team. We will help you find the right solution.
    • What if something doesn't work during install?
This is our promise to you. We stand not only for quality in product but also quality in after-sales support. While there may be many alternatives out there, the true value shows when it comes to replacements or product questions. We are here to help until everything works exactly as it should.
    • Can I use the reverse camera while driving forward?
Yes, absolutely possible. If you only have the rear camera installed or are using your original factory camera, you can add a rocker switch to activate it while in drive. Just keep in mind that this is not plug and play and does require some basic wiring knowledge. A more convenient option is to use both our front and rear cameras, which are powered directly through the head unit. You can switch between them anytime, view both at once and even watch them while driving. This is especially useful for towing, caravans and off-road use.
    • Can I install a front camera and view it anytime, even while driving?
Yes, absolutely. You can view both front and rear anytime, whether parked or driving. For more advanced setups, you can install multiple additional cameras using rocker switches or modified RCA inputs and switch between them freely. This requires high installation skill and is not plug and play, while with our front and rear camera setup it is plug and play.
    • Do your units support steering wheel controls?
Yes, absolutely. Steering wheel buttons are supported. Sometimes they work immediately after installation. Sometimes you configure them in the steering wheel app on the head unit. The process is simple: press the icon on the screen, press the button on your steering wheel, and assign the function. You can map any function to any button. For vehicles with more advanced ECUs, we supply CANbus modules. In those cases, you just select your car model inside the CAN app and it will sync automatically. Should anything be unclear or if you need help with setup, feel free to Chat with Human Support or email us at service@brummstadt.com.au.

Brummstadt RAM and SSD Storage Guide

Think of RAM as the workbench and SSD storage as the cupboard. RAM is the short term space where your Brummstadt Android head unit keeps apps open and responsive. SSD storage is the long term place for apps, offline maps, music, podcasts, dashcam clips, and system files. Android keeps a slice of RAM and SSD for the system so the usable amount is a bit less than the number on the box. That is normal and it keeps Bluetooth, GPS, voice control, and the launcher running smoothly.

CarPlay and Android Auto change the equation. With projection your phone does most of the heavy lifting while the head unit focuses on the screen, touch, sound, and microphone. If you mostly use Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze through CarPlay or Android Auto you do not need as much RAM or SSD because the apps run on the phone. If you prefer to run native Android apps on the head unit itself extra RAM and SSD give you more headroom and fewer reloads.

    Real world stories

Sarah in Sydney is a projection first driver. She plugs in, opens CarPlay, and lives in Apple Maps and Apple Music. She takes calls, uses Siri for messages, and rarely opens anything on the head unit. For Sarah a modest 2 GB RAM and 32 GB SSD feels fine because her phone does the heavy work.

Dave the tradie is a maps first commuter. He uses Google Maps or Waze every day, streams Spotify, and jumps between calls and navigation. He wants quick app switching and a stable split between nav and music. Dave is better served by 4 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD. The extra RAM lets maps and music sit open together without stutter and the larger SSD leaves space for a few offline areas for longer drives between jobs.

Mia and Lucas are weekend tourers who like to get off the grid. Before a trip they download map regions for the state, save podcasts and playlists, and sometimes copy a few videos to watch at the campsite. Their unit feels happiest with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD so navigation, music, and messages can run together with room to grow. If their model supports an SD card they move some media there so the internal SSD stays clear for apps.

Raj in Brisbane drives rideshare. He runs Google Maps, takes hands free calls, uses voice to reply to messages, watches the queue app, and likes split screen between maps and the job app. Raj benefits from 4 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD for dependable multitasking. If he adds an always on dashcam recorder or an OBD2 dashboard, stepping up to 6 GB and 128 GB keeps everything snappy.

Zoe the power user prefers native Android apps on the head unit. She runs maps in split screen with an OBD2 dashboard, keeps a dashcam recording to internal storage, and switches to a file manager or a browser while parked. This kind of multitasking thrives on 6 GB RAM so apps do not restart when she swaps between them. A 128 GB SSD gives room for recordings, large caches, and offline maps without constant clean ups.

The Nguyen family uses the unit for school runs and road trips. They want reliable calls, instant maps, and voice control. On holidays they add offline maps for multiple states and download kid friendly playlists. For daily life 4 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD is a sweet spot. For big trips they appreciate the extra margin of 6 GB and 128 GB.

Ethan is a casual gamer who only plays when parked. Games can store large assets and switching between a game, music, and a messaging app feels smoother with more RAM. Ethan chooses 6 GB and 128 GB so loading screens are shorter and the unit does not complain about space. Gaming should only happen when parked.

    Simple selection guide

Size Best for Why it fits Storage pointers
2 GB RAM, 32 GB SSD Projection first drivers who live in CarPlay or Android Auto Phone runs the apps so the head unit shows the interface and routes audio Keep few native apps, minimal downloads, add SD card for extra media if supported
4 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD Balanced daily use with maps, music, calls, and a handful of native apps Extra RAM keeps maps and music active together with smooth switching Room for several offline areas and playlists, tidy caches now and then
6 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD Heavy multitasking, offline tourers, power users, dashcam saving, split screen Apps stay in memory while you swap tasks, guidance and prompts stay instant Space for large offline maps, music libraries, and recordings without clean ups

Notes: Android reserves part of RAM and storage for the system. CarPlay and Android Auto reduce demand on the head unit since apps run on the phone. If your model supports an SD card you can place offline maps and media there to free internal space for apps.

The Mazda 3, known in Japan as the Mazda Axela, represents a notable milestone for Mazda, demonstrating the automaker's commitment to innovation, driving pleasure, and design excellence. It has consistently earned respect across diverse global markets due to its agility, economy, distinctive styling, and enjoyable driving dynamics. To better appreciate the 2010-2013 Mazda 3—a segment encompassing both the BK and BL generations—it's insightful to trace the model’s rich historical evolution that shaped its distinctive heritage in automotive circles worldwide.

Historical Context and Evolution of the Mazda 3:

    First Generation (BK Series: 2003-2009):
Introduced originally as a replacement for the Mazda Familia/Protegé, the first-generation Mazda 3 (2003-2009) quickly distinguished itself as a refreshing competitor in the compact-car segment internationally. Under the internal designation "BK," it rapidly found favour globally, thanks to its expressive design language and dynamic driving capabilities, influenced greatly by Mazda’s spirited “Zoom-Zoom” philosophy. Available in sedan and hatchback forms, this generation presented commendable handling attributes, supported by responsive engines and firm yet comfortable suspension setups. Its reputation was bolstered by youthful energy, fuel efficiency, dependability, and a compelling balance between affordability and practical comfort—solidifying its popularity considerably in markets such as Australia, North America, Europe, and Asia.

    Second Generation (BL Series: 2009-2013):
The BL series Mazda 3 emerged in 2009 as a reimagined successor, confidently building on the successful foundations set by the BK series. This iteration refined Mazda’s original, lively design approach, introducing a smile-shaped front grille that provided a distinctively upbeat face across global markets. The Japan market continued to have it branded distinctly as Mazda Axela; however, despite the different naming conventions, the identity and attributes remained largely consistent worldwide.

The BL generation introduced comprehensive improvements including enhanced structural integrity, quieter cabins, and vastly upgraded interiors. Powertrains became more economical, responsive, and refined—ranging from efficient entry-level four-cylinder engines to higher-performing 2.5-litre options. Importantly, greater sophistication entered this generation, with increased emphasis placed on driving enjoyment, interior craftsmanship, technology, and occupant safety.

Special attention was paid to technological advancements and occupant comforts: the BL-series models introduced options like Bluetooth connectivity, upgraded audio systems, intelligent keyless entry and start, and more intuitive dashboard instrumentation. Enhanced chassis rigidity and carefully finessed suspension geometry provided refined ride qualities and more precise, engaging handling appreciated by drivers across different geographies. Equally crucial was the solidity and reliability inherent to the BK and BL series models—qualities frequently recognized by industry accolades and cherished by countless satisfied owners.

Driving Experience and Advantages of the Mazda 3 (BK & BL):

At the heart of both BK and BL Mazda 3/Axela models lies a well-earned reputation built on satisfying driving dynamics. Drivers and passengers appreciate the finely balanced handling, sharp steering response, and composed ride quality—qualities that turn everyday drives into genuinely pleasurable experiences. Its dynamic aesthetics communicate a youthful yet sophisticated appeal, echoed inside by tasteful interior materials, ergonomic controls, and well-thought-out cabin arrangements. From practical daily commuting and efficient city driving to enjoyable highway journeys, the Mazda 3 models consistently deliver spirited performance refined with sensible efficiency.

Moreover, automotive communities in markets such as Australia, Europe, the Americas, and Japan have valued the Mazda 3’s approachable mechanics, uncomplicated reliability, and broad compatibility with aftermarket accessory options. Such qualities have elevated these Mazda compact models beyond ordinary commuter status, forging a legacy of lasting driver loyalty and appeal.
