    • After install, I noticed there are some plugs that don't seem to plug in anywhere. Did I get the wrong harness?
No, it is normal to have plugs left over from your old stereo if upgrading to a Brummstadt head unit. The unit comes with its own components and antennas (GPS, 4G, microphone), so some factory plugs are simply not needed anymore. No need to worry. All core functions will work as intended. If anything doesn’t perform as expected, you can always reach out to our customer support by clicking here Chat with Human Support or send an email to service@brummstadt.com.au.
    • Why isn't my factory camera working with your unit?
Our cables are made to work with factory cameras, but sometimes they just don't. Some cameras work straight out of the box. Others may need a 12V to 6V step-down module or a different plug. In any case, contact our support team. We will help you find the right solution.
    • What if something doesn't work during install?
This is our promise to you. We stand not only for quality in product but also quality in after-sales support. While there may be many alternatives out there, the true value shows when it comes to replacements or product questions. We are here to help until everything works exactly as it should.
    • Can I use the reverse camera while driving forward?
Yes, absolutely possible. If you only have the rear camera installed or are using your original factory camera, you can add a rocker switch to activate it while in drive. Just keep in mind that this is not plug and play and does require some basic wiring knowledge. A more convenient option is to use both our front and rear cameras, which are powered directly through the head unit. You can switch between them anytime, view both at once and even watch them while driving. This is especially useful for towing, caravans and off-road use.
    • Can I install a front camera and view it anytime, even while driving?
Yes, absolutely. You can view both front and rear anytime, whether parked or driving. For more advanced setups, you can install multiple additional cameras using rocker switches or modified RCA inputs and switch between them freely. This requires high installation skill and is not plug and play, while with our front and rear camera setup it is plug and play.
    • Do your units support steering wheel controls?
Yes, absolutely. Steering wheel buttons are supported. Sometimes they work immediately after installation. Sometimes you configure them in the steering wheel app on the head unit. The process is simple: press the icon on the screen, press the button on your steering wheel, and assign the function. You can map any function to any button. For vehicles with more advanced ECUs, we supply CANbus modules. In those cases, you just select your car model inside the CAN app and it will sync automatically. Should anything be unclear or if you need help with setup, feel free to Chat with Human Support or email us at service@brummstadt.com.au.

The Kia Sportage, celebrated globally as a versatile and stylish compact SUV, has steadily evolved since its debut to become one of Kia’s most admired vehicles. Over multiple generations and design refreshes, the Sportage has skillfully navigated shifts in driver preferences, technological advances, safety considerations, and market demands to firmly establish itself as a reliable and comfortable family-oriented SUV. To thoroughly appreciate the Kia Sportage SL (2011–2016), it's valuable to reflect on the model’s intriguing journey through automotive history, beginning with its earliest origins.

Historical Evolution of the Kia Sportage:

First Generation Kia Sportage (NB-7; 1993-2002):
Kia introduced the original Sportage as a compact SUV designed primarily for practicality and rugged capability, adept both on- and off-road. Initially based on platform-sharing arrangements with Mazda, it distinctively featured robust body-on-frame construction. The first Sportage gained popularity particularly in European and Asian markets for its relatively compact size, affordability, and genuine off-road versatility. Its spaciousness relative to size, strong engines, and straightforward mechanics established an enduring appeal.

Second Generation Kia Sportage (JE/KM; 2004-2010):
The second generation, returning after a short production hiatus, marked Kia's decision to transition from traditional body-on-frame design to a contemporary unibody crossover architecture. The new Sportage prioritized convenience, urban comfort, smoother driving dynamics, and improved fuel economy over rugged off-road capability. It quickly resonated with customers, gaining increased appreciation across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North American markets. The emphasis shifted toward improved ride comfort, everyday practicality, and refined interiors, significantly broadening global appeal.

Third Generation Kia Sportage (SL; 2011–2016):
The Kia Sportage SL represented a substantial evolution in delivering higher levels of sophistication, technology, and aesthetic refinement, quickly distinguishing itself by its prominently sculpted design lines, athletic stance, and modernized interior. Across various markets globally, such as Australia, Europe, Asia, and North America, the third-generation model received recognition for blending practicality, comfort, technology, safety, and notable driving dynamics at a highly accessible price point, making it especially attractive to young families and urban commuters.

Design-wise, the Kia Sportage SL showcased a dynamic and contemporary presence defined by sleek and aerodynamic body panels, Kia’s characteristic tiger-nose grille introduced by then-design chief Peter Schreyer (former Audi designer), sharp headlamp clusters, and distinctly high shoulder lines. Internally, increasing attention was given to interior craftsmanship, occupants’ comfort, intuitive user interfaces, and overall ease of use, significantly enhancing the overall perception of value and quality.

Performance offered a range of engines, including dependable petrol and diesel options catering to diverse geographic preferences. Known for competent driving manners, progressive suspension tuning, comfortable steering dynamics, and reliable efficiency, the 2011–2016 Sportage SL offered balanced performance for both urban and highway conditions. Safety and practicality were increasingly emphasized and progressively improved during model cycle refinements, earning well-deserved commendation from families prioritizing confidence-inspiring safety and reliability.

    Advancing Technology and Infotainment Possibilities:
Despite the Kia Sportage SL's already capable stock infotainment system, advancements in smartphone connectivity and vehicle interface technology since its original production offer a significant incentive for updates. Recognizing this opportunity, Australian brand Brummstadt provides compelling solutions specifically suited for the 2011–2016 Sportage SL. A premium head unit replacement, thoughtfully engineered for harmonious dash fitment, ensures optimal integration in both appearance and functionality within this third-generation Kia model.

This upgraded radio infotainment device specifically supports comprehensive wired and wireless connectivity using Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Thoroughly compatible with widely-utilized third-party navigation applications like Google Maps and WAZE, it intuitively guides drivers from destination to destination, significantly contributing to stress-free commuting experiences. Picture a family dinner out with loved ones; the next destination is quickly set via smartphone maps during dessert. Upon returning to the vehicle, navigation seamlessly transitions onto the crisp infotainment touchscreen thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity, facilitating effortless travel to meet friends or family afterwards, enhancing shared moments without unnecessary distractions.

Furthermore, the Brummstadt head unit for the Sportage SL generously extends its technological capabilities with optional integration of premium 1080p high-definition camera systems—notably front and rear cameras offering continuous recording functionality. Such an addition not only improves driver awareness, visibility, and safety substantially but also grants a documented visual record helpful in unforeseen incidents or security concerns.

Beyond conventional navigation and media playback, passengers reap substantial enjoyment from this upgraded infotainment platform. Connecting gaming controllers through USB interface enables collaborative multiplayer gaming sessions during stationary vehicle idle time, transforming idle waits into engaging, family-friendly leisure moments.

Additionally, intuitive voice control integration via popular smartphone assistants (Siri, Google Assistant) elevates convenience significantly. Through a simple voice command, essential safe-driving compliance is assured—music, calls, navigation routing all easily managed hands-free, simultaneously interacting seamlessly with compatible smart home ecosystems. Further, it becomes possible to issue practical instructions (e.g., remotely activating porch or entryway lighting upon returning home), smoothly connecting various facets of modern life seamlessly through intelligent vehicle–home connectivity, ideal for drivers who appreciate thoughtful conveniences aligning with contemporary lifestyles.

    Driving Experience and Vehicle Strengths:
The ongoing appreciation for third-generation Kia Sportage SL models arises fundamentally from their admirable harmony among reliability, refined internal cabin space, attractive design language, and comfort-focused suspension. Owners continually affirm the Sportage’s commendable reliability, generous cargo space, practical family-oriented features, and confidently capable road manners that favor comfort over unnecessary harshness.

Through the thoughtful addition of carefully selected technology upgrades, a fundamentally well-engineered SUV further rewards drivers and passengers alike. Improved smartphone connectivity, navigation accuracy, intelligent safety features from added high-quality cameras, engrossing entertainment potential, and significantly improved driver ergonomics solidify this compelling choice. These quality upgrades substantially contribute toward driver relaxation, informed driving decisions, passenger enjoyment, and a general satisfaction level notably heightened during daily errands or lengthy travel excursions.

Reflecting thoughtfully developed styling, comfortable refinement, commendable practicality, and high-quality, intuitive technology options, the Kia Sportage SL (2011–2016) maintains its reputation firmly as a thoughtfully versatile and confidence-inspiring compact SUV within the global automotive marketplace—continuing to earn lasting respect, appreciation, and pride from its owners around the world.

“A car is not just a tool — it’s an experience waiting to happen.”
