TPMS on your Brummstadt unit
Every tyre's pressure and temperature live on your Brummstadt screen, with a warning if one starts dropping, so you catch a slow leak early. About twenty minutes to fit the outside sensors, and every step is written out below.
Tyre pressures on your Brummstadt screen
Every tyre, live, while you drive, and a warning if one starts dropping.
Three names you will see: the sensors sit on each tyre valve. The receiver is the little black box on a USB plug; it listens to the sensors. And the app, ANR TPMS, shows it all on your screen.
Have ready
- The kit with its little USB stick, a tyre gauge, and the tyre placard in your door frame.
- About twenty minutes to fit the outside sensors, then the unit stays on for about ten more while they settle in.
- Sensors that go inside the tyres get fitted by a tyre shop first. They are covered below too.
- Watch the video once, then start again and follow along.
How do I install the TPMS app and the receiver?
Not every Brummstadt unit looks the same, depending on the software and the theme, so go by the names.
- Ignition on, handbrake on. Look for the ANR TPMS app on your unit.
- Not there? Plug the USB stick from the kit into the unit's USB lead.
- Open the files app (in the video it is called File Explorer), tap Classification, then Apk.
- Tap the TPMS file, then Install, then Done.
- Take the stick out, and plug the receiver into that same lead.
- Open the app. When it asks to open with this USB device, tick the box and tap OK. Ticked, it won't ask again.
- Four zeros on the screen? Spot on. The receiver is talking to the app, and the sensors aren't on yet.
App says it is waiting for the adapter?
That message is about the receiver, not the sensors.
- Unplug the receiver, plug it back in firmly, and open the app again.
- Still waiting? Try the unit's other USB lead. Plug the receiver straight in, not into a hub or a charger socket.
- The receiver's green light only means power. The app tells you when it is really connected.
- Swapped to a new unit? Same steps on the new one: install the app, plug the receiver in, tap OK. Your sensors stay just as they are.
How do I fit the sensors?
Leave the app open the whole time you fit the sensors.
Each sensor is marked with its wheel: LF left front, RF right front, LR left rear, RR right rear. Left and right are as you sit in the seat facing forward, so LF goes on the passenger front.
- Unscrew the normal valve cap and keep it somewhere safe.
- Check that tyre with your gauge while it is cold, and pump it up to the pressure on the placard.
- Wind the little lock nut onto the valve first.
- Screw the sensor on by hand until it is snug. A short hiss as it seats is normal.
- Hold the sensor still and turn the lock nut back up against it with the little spanner. Firm, not forced, so it can't work itself loose and is harder to pinch.
- Now the other three, each on its own wheel. Each one shows up on the screen as it is fitted.
- Leave your Brummstadt unit on for about ten minutes, so they all settle in.
Sensors that go inside the tyres?
- They are marked for each wheel too. A tyre shop fits each one inside its matching wheel, as part of the valve.
- Snap a photo of which sensor went on which wheel, before the tyres go back on.
- Then, with the app open, they come up just like the outside sensors.
- A new kit needs no pairing buttons. ID Pairing and Tire swap in the settings are for later jobs, like a new sensor, so leave them for now.
Which settings do I choose?
Tap the little gear, bottom right.
- Number of tires: four for the car.
- Pressure units: pick the same as your gauge, psi, kPa or bar. Temperature in Celsius.
- Start from your placard. Set Tire pressure low a little under it, and high a little over it, so you hear about it before it matters.
- Keep Audible alarm on, so you hear a warning, not just see it.
- Tap back, open the settings again, and check your choices stayed.
Eight sensor kit for a caravan or camper?
- Four sensors go on the car and four on the van, each on the wheel it is marked for.
- In the settings, set Number of tires to eight and switch on RVs. You get the car and van picture.
- When the van isn't hooked up, leave it on eight. The van's wheels just stay empty until you hook up.
How do I read the screen and check it all works?
- On each wheel, the big number is the pressure and the small one underneath is the temperature.
- Check one tyre with your gauge. The screen should be close to it.
- If a warning pops up while you are driving, pull over somewhere safe and check that tyre.
- Tyres warm up as you drive, so the numbers climb a bit. That is normal. Set your pressures when the tyres are cold.
- The app closed itself after a few minutes? That is normal. It keeps watching in the background, so open it any time for a look.
- Last check: turn your Brummstadt unit off, wait a moment and turn it back on. Open the app, and all four come back, the right numbers on the right wheels.
One wheel or all four show zero?
- One wheel stays at zero: check that tyre first. Then unscrew that sensor and screw it back on, with the app open, and give it a few minutes.
- All four say zero: then it is the receiver again. Plug it back in, open the app and tap OK.
Full transcript
- Liam: Right, Jess. Your Brummstadt tyre kit's here. Let's get all four tyre pressures and temperatures up on your Brummstadt screen.
- Jess: Every tyre, live, while I'm driving?
- Liam: Every tyre. And a warning if one starts dropping, so you catch a slow leak early.
- Liam: Here's what's coming. One, receiver and app. Two, fit and match the sensors. Three, settings and alerts. And four, readings and checks, so you know it's all working.
- Jess: And at the end, all four tyres on the screen?
- Liam: All four, with the right number on the right wheel.
- Liam: Have ready: the kit with its little USB stick, a tyre gauge, and the tyre placard in your door frame.
- Liam: Fitting the outside sensors takes about twenty minutes. Then the unit stays on for about ten more, while they settle in.
- Liam: Sensors that go inside the tyres get fitted by a tyre shop first. We'll cover those too.
- Liam: Three names you'll hear. The sensors sit on each tyre valve. The receiver is this little black box on a USB plug; it listens to the sensors. And the app, ANR TPMS, shows it all on your screen.
- Liam: Watch it once all the way through, hands off, so you get the whole idea. Then start again and do it with us, step by step. Pause whenever you need.
- Jess: Watch first, then follow along. Got it.
- Liam: Part one. Ignition on, handbrake on.
- Liam: Look for the ANR TPMS app. Not every Brummstadt unit looks the same, so go by the name, not the picture.
- Jess: Hmm. I can't see it.
- Liam: Then we'll install it, it only takes a minute. Plug the USB stick from the kit into the unit's USB lead.
- Liam: Open the files app, here it's called File Explorer. Tap Classification, then Apk.
- Liam: There's the TPMS file. Tap it, then tap Install.
- Jess: App installed.
- Liam: Tap Done. Now take the stick out, and plug the receiver into that same lead.
- Liam: Open the app. When it asks to open with this USB device, tick the box and tap OK. Ticked, it won't ask again.
- Jess: Four zeros. Is that right?
- Liam: Spot on. The receiver's talking to the app, and the sensors aren't on yet, so zeros for now.
- Jess: And if it says it's waiting for the adapter?
- Liam: That message is about the receiver, not the sensors. Unplug it, plug it back in firmly, and open the app again.
- Liam: Still waiting? Try the unit's other USB lead. Plug the receiver straight in, not into a hub or a charger socket.
- Jess: Even if the receiver's green light is on?
- Liam: Even then. The light only means power. The app tells you when it's really connected.
- Jess: And if I ever swap to a new unit?
- Liam: Same steps on the new one. Install the app, plug the receiver in, tap OK. Your sensors stay just as they are.
- Liam: Part two. Leave the app open the whole time we fit the sensors.
- Liam: Each sensor is marked with its wheel. LF, left front. RF, right front. LR and RR at the back.
- Jess: Left meaning the passenger side?
- Liam: Yep. Left and right as you sit in the seat, facing forward. So LF goes on the passenger front.
- Liam: First, unscrew the normal valve cap and pop it in your pocket.
- Liam: Check that tyre with your gauge while it's cold, and pump it up to the placard.
- Liam: Wind the little lock nut onto the valve first. Then screw the sensor on by hand until it's snug. A short hiss as it seats is normal.
- Liam: Hold the sensor still, and turn the lock nut back up against it with the little spanner. Firm, not forced.
- Jess: So it can't work itself loose?
- Liam: That, and it's harder to pinch. Now the other three, each on its own wheel.
- Jess: Oh, look. The numbers are coming up!
- Liam: Each one shows up as it's fitted. Now leave your Brummstadt unit on for about ten minutes, so they all settle in.
- Jess: And the sensors that go inside the tyre?
- Liam: Same idea, they're marked for each wheel too. A tyre shop fits each one inside its matching wheel, as part of the valve.
- Liam: Snap a photo of which sensor went on which wheel, before the tyres go back on. Then, with the app open, they come up just like the caps.
- Jess: So no pairing buttons?
- Liam: Not for a new kit. ID Pairing and Tire swap in the settings are for later jobs, like a new sensor. Leave them be for now.
- Jess: And the eight sensor kit, for a caravan?
- Liam: Four on the car, four on the van. We'll set the app for that in part three.
- Liam: Part three. Tap the little gear, bottom right.
- Liam: Number of tires: four for the car. With the eight kit, choose eight and switch on RVs, and you get the car and van picture.
- Jess: And when the van's not hooked up?
- Liam: Leave it on eight. The van's wheels just stay empty until you hook up.
- Liam: Pressure units: pick the same as your gauge. Psi, kilopascals or bar. And temperature in Celsius.
- Jess: What do I set for high and low?
- Liam: Start from your placard. Set Tire pressure low a little under it, and high a little over it. Then you hear about it before it matters.
- Liam: Keep Audible alarm on, so you hear a warning, not just see it. Then tap back, open the settings again, and check your choices stayed.
- Liam: Part four. On each wheel, the big number is the pressure, the small one underneath is the temperature.
- Liam: Check one tyre with your gauge. The screen should be close to it.
- Jess: And if one wheel stays at zero?
- Liam: Check that tyre first. Then unscrew that sensor and screw it back on, with the app open. Give it a few minutes.
- Jess: And if all four say zero?
- Liam: Then it's the receiver again. Plug it back in, open the app, tap OK.

- Liam: That's normal. It keeps watching in the background. Open it any time for a look.
- Liam: Last check. Turn your Brummstadt unit off, wait a moment, and back on. Open the app. All four back?
- Jess: All four. Right numbers, right wheels.
- Liam: That's it. Receiver and app. Fit and match. Settings and alerts. Readings and checks.
- Liam: Still got a question, or your USB stick came up empty? Ask your installer, or best of all, us at Brummstadt. We sell these units and work with them every day, so we know which app goes with which kit. Even good installers don't always know that, it's just product knowledge.
- Jess: And if there's something else you'd like for your car?
- Liam: Enjoy the drive, and come back to us at Brummstadt anytime.
