LandCruiser 70 Dashboard Trim Timeline (1984-2025)
There are only three LandCruiser 70 dashboard trims that matter for fascia fitment: Classic (1984-1999), Mid-Generation (Sep 1999-Sep 2023), and Retro Tech (Oct 2023 onwards). Match yours below, order the linked kit, and we’ll include the exact harness + fascia combo you need.
How to confirm your trim in under five minutes
- Shoot the centre stack. Capture the radio surround, HVAC buttons, and any blank switch panels.
- Note the build month. Use the compliance plate, not first registration, so you know whether you sit before or after September 2023.
- Check the harness. If you can, peek behind the factory radio. Classic dashboards use the older loom, while Mid-Generation dashes use the same fascia with either two or three white plugs. Retro Tech models keep the Toyota 6.7” screen with a new loom.
Customers like Ben keep telling us they mix up the Mid-Generation and Retro dash, so we ask everyone to send those centre-stack shots before checkout—it saves a week of back-and-forth and guarantees we pack the right fascia.
The only three trims you need to worry about
| Trim | Build dates | Visual cues | Recommended kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 1984-1999 | Flat steel fascia, square vents, no integrated cup storage. | Universal 7" Android Car Stereo Upgrade |
| Mid-Generation | Sep 1999-Sep 2023 | Sculpted plastics, storage pocket below the radio, identical switch layout for 24 years. | Brummstadt 70 Series Premium Head Unit |
| Retro Tech | Oct 2023 onwards | Factory 6.7" screen with wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, USB-C ports, circular vents. | Join the Retro Tech pilot program (contact us) |
Classic Trim (1984-1999)
These troopies keep the upright metal fascia and twin square vents. If you want to modernise without cutting into the factory dash, the Universal 7" Android Car Stereo Premium Upgrade Kit is the cleanest option. Prefer to step up to our 9" screen? Add centre-stack photos to your order and we’ll include the spacer kit.
Mid-Generation Trim (Sep 1999-Sep 2023)
Toyota refreshed the fascia in late 1999 and left it alone for nearly a quarter of a century, so VDJ76, 78, and 79 owners all sit in this bucket. Select “Mid-Generation Trim (Sep 1999-Sep 2023)” on the product page and drop a note if you know whether your radio has two or three plugs—we’ll pack the correct harness regardless.
Retro Tech Dash (Oct 2023 onwards)
Toyota Australia’s 2023 refresh brought a 6.7" infotainment screen with factory Apple CarPlay + Android Auto, a new instrument cluster, USB-C ports, and new vents. We’re finalising a fascia + CAN solution that preserves the steering-wheel media buttons while swapping in our 9" or 13.3" hardware. Use the contact link above to secure a spot.
How we prove the fitment
- Photo validation: Every order receives a manual check against the reference album before we ship.
- Harness labelling: Mid-Generation trims ship with loom notes so installers know whether to use the two-plug or three-plug adapter inside the box.
- Pilot program tracking: Retro Tech owners receive staged updates (fascia ETA, harness build, shipping) to keep the install timeline transparent.
