    Optional Accessories Installation Guides

Enhance your Brummstadt head unit with these premium accessories. Each accessory is designed for easy DIY installation.

External Microphone (Your Passengers Will Thank You)
Game changer alert: Ever had someone say "Sorry, can't hear you!" on calls? Your built-in mic is doing its best, but it's fighting road noise. This external mic with noise filtering makes you sound crystal clear - even at highway speeds!

Dead easy setup (honestly, 2 minutes):

    1. Connect to head unit: Find the 3.5mm MIC port in your wiring harness (it's with the RCA connectors). Just plug in the mic's 3.5mm connector until it clicks
    2. Pick your spot: Most people love the sun visor (clips on solid), but A-pillar or above the mirror work great too. The 3-meter coiled cable reaches anywhere
    3. Clip it on: The rotatable clip grips tight - sun visor, A-pillar trim, wherever works for you. About 30cm from your mouth is perfect
    4. Quick test: Call a mate and ask "How do I sound?" Prepare for compliments! Works brilliantly with Siri, Google Assistant, and hands-free calls

Pro tip: Mic too quiet? Head to Settings → Sound → Microphone Gain. Start at 50% (perfect for most cars). Noisy diesel? Try 70%. The difference is amazing!

🔊 Voice Quality Tip: After installation, fine-tune your microphone sensitivity in the head unit's audio settings. Test it out by calling your wife, husband, kids, friends, or even having a philosophical chat with the heavens above! Try voice commands with Siri, Google Assistant, or your preferred voice assistant to ensure crystal-clear audio. If they can't hear you properly, simply adjust the mic gain in settings until you sound like a professional podcast host!
    Rear View Camera Installation
Compatibility: Rear camera alone works with all models (2/32GB and up). For front + rear camera combo, you need 4/64GB or higher.

For Brummstadt Cameras (Plug & Play):

    1. Mount camera above license plate using provided bracket
    2. Run the camera cable through rubber boot between car body and trunk/door
    3. Route cable under trim panels to head unit location
    4. Connect yellow RCA plug to CAM-IN on head unit
    5. Connect red power wire to reverse light positive (this serves as the power trigger that tells the head unit to automatically switch to camera view when you shift to reverse)
    6. Connect black wire to chassis ground
    7. In Factory Settings → Backcar Settings, set to "Aftermarket Camera"

Note: In most cases, connecting the red wire to the reverse light is necessary for automatic camera switching. However, in modern vehicles with CANBUS, this may not be required as the CANBUS module already controls screen switching (even if your car didn't come with a factory camera, the switching software is often pre-installed!))

Camera will automatically activate when reverse gear is selected.

    DAB+ Digital Radio Module

    Installation Process:

    1. Connect USB module: Connect the DAB+ receiver to the USB 6-pin port on the back of the head unit (not the 4-pin port)
    2. Mount antenna:
      • Clean windscreen area (top corner recommended)
      • Stick the film antenna to the glass
      • Route cable along windscreen edge under trim
    3. Connect antenna to module: SMB connector clicks into place
    4. Activate in head unit: Open DAB+ app and scan for stations
    5. Ground for better signal: Connect the DAB+ module to bare metal in your vehicle - the car's metal body serves as grounding for stronger signal reception
    6. Position for best reception: Antenna works best with clear sky view
    7. Download app: Download a DAB+ app from the Google Play Store to start streaming digital radio
⚠️ Important: DAB+ coverage varies significantly by location. Check coverage maps for your area before purchasing to ensure you can receive digital radio signals.
    TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)
Choice of Systems: We offer both External (valve cap) and Internal (inside tyre) TPMS sensors. External is easier to install, Internal is more accurate and secure.

External TPMS Installation (Valve Cap Type):

    1. Install sensors:
      • Remove existing valve caps
      • Screw on TPMS sensor caps (hand-tight only)
      • Note each sensor's ID number for position mapping
      • No tyre removal required - 5 minute installation!
    2. Connect USB receiver: Plug into available USB port on head unit
    3. Configure in app: Download and open one of these recommended apps:
      • TPMS by Vietmap: Simple interface, good for basic monitoring
      • USB TPMS: Advanced features with logging
      • Tyre Pressure Monitor: Clean UI with customizable alerts
    4. Map sensors: Assign each sensor ID to correct wheel position (FL, FR, RL, RR)
    5. Set alerts: Configure pressure (typically 32-35 PSI) and temperature warnings

    Internal TPMS Installation (Professional):

    1. Tyre removal required:
      • Remove wheels from vehicle
      • Dismount tyres from rims
      • Install internal TPMS sensors on valve stems
      • Remount and balance tyres
      • Professional installation recommended ($50-100 typical cost)
    2. Connect USB receiver: Same as external - plug into USB port
    3. App configuration: Same apps work for both internal and external sensors
    4. Advantages: More accurate readings, theft-proof, no risk of damage at car wash

After Installation: Drive for 5-10 minutes to activate sensors. You'll see real-time pressure, temperature, and leak alerts directly on your head unit screen!

Front and Rear Camera Combo (Live View)
⚠️ Requires 4GB/64GB or Higher: Front camera LIVE VIEWING while driving requires 4GB RAM models. The dual camera live view system is NOT compatible with 2/32GB entry models. (Note: Dashcam recording is different and works on all models)

    Dual Camera Installation:

    1. Front Camera:
      • Mount behind rearview mirror area
      • Connect to dedicated front camera input on head unit
      • Route cable along windscreen edge and A-pillar
    2. Rear Camera:
      • Mount above license plate
      • Connect yellow RCA to rear CAM-IN
      • Connect red wire to reverse light for auto-switching
    3. Configure in Settings:
      • Set both cameras in Factory Settings
      • Enable split-screen view option
      • Configure switching behavior

Benefits: View both cameras simultaneously, switch between them while driving, perfect for towing or tight parking.

    Dashcam (Front Recording)
✅ Compatible with ALL models: Dashcam recording works perfectly on all models including 2/32GB. Records to SD card for incident protection.

    Installation Process:

    1. Mount the camera: Position behind rearview mirror for best view
      • Clean windscreen thoroughly
      • Attach using provided 3M adhesive mount
      • Ensure camera has clear view of road
    2. Connect power: Plug USB cable into head unit's USB port (any available port)
    3. Route cable: Tuck cable along windscreen edge and A-pillar trim to hide it
    4. Configure recording:
      • Open dashcam app on head unit
      • Set video quality (1080p recommended)
      • Enable loop recording (overwrites old footage)
      • Set G-sensor sensitivity for incident detection
    5. Storage: Records to the unit's internal storage (choose 4GB/64GB+ for longer recordings)

Features: Continuous recording, automatic incident saving, parking surveillance mode when hardwired to constant power.

RAM & Storage Options - Which to Choose?

Quick heads up: The 2/32GB, 4/64GB or 8/128GB refers to the unit's built-in storage (like your phone's memory). This is permanent internal storage that can't be upgraded later.

    Which option suits you best?

    2GB RAM / 32GB Storage (Entry Level):
    • Basic CarPlay/Android Auto use only
    • Warning: May experience app refreshes or stuttering when multitasking
    • OK if you only use one app at a time
    • No 4G/SIM support at this level
    4GB RAM / 64GB Storage (Recommended):
    • Double the power - smooth multitasking
    • Run maps and music together without stutter
    • Includes 4G LTE & SIM card support
    • Room for apps and offline content
    • This is what most customers choose
    8GB RAM / 128GB Storage (Premium):
    • Power users and businesses
    • Run many apps simultaneously
    • Best for dashcam recording
    • Massive storage for offline maps
    • Future-proof choice

💡 Pro Tip: The 2/32GB is really just an entry option. For proper multitasking without frustration, 4/64GB is the sweet spot!

💡 Installation Tip: Most accessories connect directly with proper plugs. The rear camera may require connecting to your reverse light for automatic switching (basic wiring knowledge helpful). We include all necessary connectors and clear instructions.

Ford Ranger 2012-2015 PX1 Head Unit Installation

    90-120 minutes
    Intermediate DIY
    Support included
    ⚠️ CRITICAL Ford Ranger PX1 Pre-Installation Warning
This guide is specifically for Ford Ranger PX1 (2012-2015 models only).
BEFORE removing your factory radio, you MUST: Turn ignition ON, manually turn OFF the factory radio using the power button, wait 5 seconds, THEN remove the factory unit. If you don't follow this sequence, your top information display will continuously flash and search for radio stations. The display won't stop searching until you reconnect and properly turn off the factory radio.

What's Included in Your Brummstadt Kit

    Model Differences:
Essential Model (2GB/32GB): Full Android experience with WiFi, Bluetooth, CarPlay/Android Auto - everything you need for modern connectivity
Premium Models (4GB/64GB+): Enhanced experience with additional 4G LTE connectivity, SIM card support, and superior multitasking performance - the ultimate upgrade recommended by our team
    • Premium Android Head Unit (9" or 13.3" as ordered)
    • Ford Ranger PX1-specific fascia kit & trim panels
    • Color-matched trim piece for top display opening
    • Plug-and-play wiring harness with CANBUS interface
    • GPS antenna
    • 4G antenna & SIM card holder (Premium feature: included with 4GB/64GB+ models for enhanced connectivity)
    • USB extension cables
    • FM/GPS antenna adapters
    • Built-in microphone (external mic recommended for best quality)

    Tools You'll Need

    ✓ Radio removal tools (2 U-shaped tools)
    ✓ Plastic trim removal tools
    ✓ Phillips screwdriver
    ✓ 8mm socket or wrench
✓ Cable ties (for wire management)
    ✓ Electrical tape

    Step-by-Step Installation Process

    Part 1: Dashboard Disassembly
1Prepare your vehicle and turn off radio

Park on level ground and engage parking brake. Turn ignition to ACC or ON position. CRITICAL: Turn the factory radio OFF using its power button and wait 5 seconds. This prevents the top display from endlessly searching for stations after installation. Optional but recommended: Disconnect negative battery terminal (10mm wrench) and wait 2 minutes for safety.

2Remove the large center fascia panel

The PX1 has ONE large fascia panel covering the entire radio and climate control area:

    • Using plastic trim tools, carefully pop out the entire center fascia panel
    • This is one large piece - NOT separate side panels (that's PX2/PX3)
    • Work carefully around the edges to release all clips
    • Pull the entire fascia forward and disconnect any electrical connections
3Remove top display and factory radio

With the fascia removed, you now have access to:

    • Top display: Remove screws and pull out - save the CANBUS cable behind it
    • Factory radio: Insert removal tools into the 4 holes (2 per side) or use straightened coat hangers
    • Push tools in firmly until clips release, then pull radio straight out

Disconnect all cables from the radio and top display. The top display becomes obsolete - we include a color-matched trim piece to cover this opening.

Part 2: Brummstadt Head Unit Installation
    4Connect the Brummstadt harness

Your kit includes a vehicle-specific harness with CANBUS interface:

    • Connect the main harness to your factory connector
    • Connect the CANBUS cable from the top display location to the new unit
    • The included CANBUS module provides automatic steering wheel controls and door display
    • All connections are keyed - they only fit one way
    • Normal: Some factory cables may be left over (like GPS if your factory unit had it) - this is expected as our unit includes these features built-in
    5Install antennas and accessories

    Connect the provided antennas:

    • GPS antenna: Mount on dashboard with clear sky view
    • 4G antenna: Can be placed behind trim panels (4GB/64GB+ models only)
    • FM antenna: Use the adapter to connect factory antenna
    • Built-in microphone: Already integrated in the unit
    • External microphone (if purchased): Route to sun visor for best voice clarity
    6Mount the head unit

Install the provided fascia/dash kit - you'll need to reuse the lower portion of the factory bezel (the part around climate controls). The new fascia frame accommodates the larger screen. Slide the head unit into position and secure with provided brackets and screws. Route USB cables to glovebox or center console.

    Part 3: Configuration & Testing
    7Initial power-on test

    Before reassembling everything:

    • Reconnect the battery
    • Turn ignition to ACC position
    • The unit should boot (Brummstadt logo appears)
    • Test basic functions: radio, volume, touchscreen
    • Verify top display is not flashing (if it is, you didn't turn off factory radio first)
    8Configure vehicle settings

Navigate to CarSettings → Factory Settings (password: 1617)

    • Select Ford → Ranger → PX (2012-2015)
    • The CANBUS will automatically sync steering wheel controls
    • Door opening display will show which doors are open
    • If your model has digital AC controls, temperature will display on screen when adjusted
    • Configure reverse camera if you have one
    9Complete the installation

    Once everything works:

    • Secure all wiring with cable ties
    • Ensure no wires interfere with A/C controls
    • Reinstall trim panels in reverse order
    • Test all functions again after reassembly
💡 Pro Tip: Take photos of all connections before disconnecting anything - this is invaluable during reassembly. If you don't have proper removal tools, four long nails or straightened coat hanger pieces work well. The key is pushing all four release points simultaneously. Remember: the display connector wire isn't very long, so be gentle when pulling the radio out.

    Troubleshooting & Common Issues

    Top Display Keeps Flashing
    Critical Ford Ranger PX Issue
Problem: Information display above radio keeps searching for stations after installation.

    Solution:

    1. You must reinstall the factory radio temporarily
    2. Turn ignition to ON position
    3. Turn the factory radio OFF using its power button
    4. Wait 5 seconds for the system to register
    5. Remove factory radio again (now properly turned off)
    6. Install your new Brummstadt unit

This is caused by not turning off the factory radio before removal. The top display continues searching for the radio signal.

    Steering Wheel Controls Not Working

Steering wheel controls work automatically through CANBUS:

    1. Go to CarSettings → Factory Settings (password: 1617)
    2. Select Ford → Ranger → PX (2012-2015)
    3. Check that the CANBUS cable from the top display is connected
    4. Verify all CANBUS connections are secure
    5. The controls will work immediately - no learning or mapping needed

Note: Everything is handled by the CANBUS settings when you select your car model. No manual button mapping required.

    Factory Backup Camera Integration

To retain your factory backup camera:

    1. Connect the camera retention cable (included) to the yellow RCA input
    2. In Factory Settings → Backcar Settings, enable "Original Car Camera"
    3. Set trigger to "CAN" or "Reverse Wire" depending on your model
    4. Some models may need a 12V to 6V converter (contact support if image appears distorted)
Radio Won't Come Out With Removal Tools

If the radio won't release with removal tools in the 4 holes:

    1. Alternative Method 1: Remove the two 8mm bolts above the HVAC controls, then pull the entire center bezel forward. This gives you access to push the retaining clips from behind.
    2. Alternative Method 2: For T6 Rangers, remove the side trim panels first (they clip off), which reveals screws holding the radio unit.
    3. DIY Tools: Four long nails, coat hanger pieces, or small Allen keys inserted simultaneously into all 4 holes often work better than generic removal tools.
    4. Important: Push straight in until you feel/hear the clips release, then pull straight out - don't angle or twist.
    Door Display Shows Wrong Doors

The CANBUS provides door opening display - you'll see which doors are open on screen. If the doors are swapped (e.g., shows right door when left is open):

    1. Go to MyCar → Settings
    2. Select Door window settings
    3. Toggle FDoor exchange
    4. This swaps the left/right door indicators - takes just seconds
    AC Temperature Display Feature

Some Ford Ranger PX1 models have digital climate controls with temperature display. If your vehicle has this:

    • When you adjust the AC temperature, it will display on the head unit screen
    • This works automatically through the CANBUS connection
    • Both standard and digital AC controls are fully supported
    • The display shows real-time temperature changes as you adjust

The Ford Ranger's enduring resonance as a robust, versatile pickup stems from a legacy that reaches back several decades. Recognized worldwide as a practical, reliable, and capable midsize truck, its history is defined by steady evolution, geographic adaptation, and steadfast refinement. Unpacking this distinguished history provides deeper understanding and appreciation for the 2012-2015 Ford Ranger PX series—an iteration representing a pivotal shift toward modern comfort, technology, and functionality.

Historical Progression of the Ford Ranger Series:

    First Generation (1983–1992, North America):
Introduced initially as a compact truck primarily for North American markets, the first-generation Ranger satisfied the need for a dependable, practical, and economical alternative to larger pickups. Easy maneuverability, efficiency, and affordability rapidly established its reputation, making it popular among first-time truck buyers and commercial fleets alike.

    Second Generation (1993–1997, North America):
In its subsequent redesign, the Ranger pursued subtle enhancements in styling, cabin ergonomics, safety improvements, and drivetrain reliability. This era provided drivers with more refined yet still rugged platforms, capitalizing on demand for heavier duty compact truck performance and a smoother, quieter ride.

Third Generation (1998–2011, North America) and International Variants (PJ and PK, 2006–2011, Asia, Europe, and Australia):
This generation marked significant strides in engineering robustness and consumer-centric improvements, diversified engine choices, and greater cabin comfort. A notable milestone occurred internationally, with Ford’s distinct PJ and PK variants—robust, diesel-powered midsize trucks tailored for Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Australian preferences. Praised for rugged capabilities, fuel economy, and formidable towing strength, this regional success emphasized Ford’s dynamic response to global market needs.

Ford Ranger PX Generation I (2011–2015):
The 2011 introduction of the PX Ranger marked a decisive leap in sophistication—a cohesive global platform blending practicality, rugged capability, refined interior, and advanced technological integration. This era redefined the model across multiple regions, solidifying Ford’s global presence with common appeal among drivers in Australia, Asia, South America, Europe, and increasingly, Africa. Streamlined yet powerful design language embraced functional aerodynamics and durability, while engines, like the venerable 3.2-liter turbocharged five-cylinder diesel, delivered balance between power, torque, and efficiency. The PX offered tangible practicality improvements along with marked upgrades in comfort, interior refinement, and thoughtful cabin ergonomics.

Brummstadt Head Unit Integration for Ford Ranger PX:

Owners frequently acknowledge infotainment systems as a preferred area for improvement. Brummstadt addresses exactly this opportunity, offering a premium head unit system specifically compatible with the Ford Ranger PX 2012-2015 series. Capitalizing on existing dashboard integration points, these systems become intuitive elements within the existing cabin layout and harness the latest connectivity features available.

Central to its capabilities are wired and wireless compatibility with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Daily scenarios illustrate its functionality vividly: picture an evening where a family dinner concludes happily; with a friend's home address entered swiftly via Google Maps or WAZE from the dinner table, the navigation directions immediately transfer seamlessly into Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as the ignition engages. Clear visual guidance and real-time routed navigation eliminate confusion, streamlining both goal-oriented and spontaneous journeys.

Augmented further by an available high-definition 1080p front and rear camera set, the system provides valuable documentation, comprehensive visibility, and preventive reassurance on complex streets or crowded parking zones. Video recordings captured by these cameras afford safety enhancements and tangible practical benefits for vehicle owners facing busy city traffic or unpredictable rural environments.

Recognizing family engagement and passenger entertainment, the Brummstadt infotainment system allows multiplayer games via USB-connected controllers, transforming downtime on road trips into memorable shared experiences. Additionally, its intelligent voice-command capabilities significantly elevate daily routines. Through Siri or Google Assistant, the head unit can manage calls, messages, route adjustments, or even communication with connected smart home technologies—imagine simply triggering porch lights or adjusting home thermostats remotely while approaching the driveway, effortlessly integrating routine life tasks directly into the driving experience.

    Advantages and Unique Characteristics:

The 2012–2015 Ford Ranger PX deftly balances rugged utility performance, off-road durability, and family-oriented comfort. Renowned for potent torque delivery, strong towing and payload capabilities, and commendable fuel efficiency, this iteration appeals broadly—city travelers, regional commuters, recreational enthusiasts, and tradespeople universally find value in its dual-purpose strengths. Its global influence also speaks volumes: recognized as the T6 Ranger in numerous markets, including Europe, South Africa, Thailand, and Australia, it showcases adaptability toward regional expectations while maintaining worldwide acceptance.

With foundations of a capable suspension layout and compliant ride comfort, it handles both urban paved paths and rough terrain with competent ease. Purposefully evolved cabin refinement, noise suppression improvements, and practical storage spaces manifest clear visions of everyday practicality. The premium infotainment offered by Brummstadt amplifies these everyday virtues, introducing thoughtful conveniences, valuable navigation integration, safety assistance, and enhanced multimedia engagement to an otherwise utilitarian focused vehicle.

Reflecting proudly on Ford’s sustained tradition of dependable midsize trucks, this recent Ranger evolution continues that heritage with meaningful improvement embracing contemporary lifestyle requirements. The addition of well-integrated technology clearly signifies its progressive adaptation to shifting global preferences. When performance and practicality find harmony with thoughtful upgrades, ownership naturally resonates with deeper satisfaction, pride, and enduring automotive fulfillment.

    1. Quick Fix: Settings → Apps → Z-Link → Disable → Enable → Open (repeat each use)
    2. Check Cables: Use the data/charge USB cable (not charge-only)
    3. Bluetooth Setting: Disconnect all other Bluetooth connections - CarPlay needs exclusive access
    4. Factory Reset Z-Link: Find the pink 'RESET' app, restart, reconnect Bluetooth, then try Z-Link
    5. Sound Issues: Switch audio source to 'AUX' or 'USB/AUX' in your vehicle menu
Most issues are resolved with step 1 or 3!

The processor differs between models: The 2/32GB has a 4-Core processor, while 4/64GB and 8/128GB models feature the powerful 8-Core Cortex-A55 processor. Combined with RAM differences: The 2/32GB model with its 4-Core processor and limited RAM may experience slowdowns with heavy multitasking. The 4/64GB with 8-Core provides smooth performance for most users - no lag, seamless app switching, and enough storage for maps and music. The 8/128GB with 8-Core offers maximum performance with its generous RAM allowing unlimited multitasking and massive storage for extensive media libraries. Think of RAM like your desk space - more RAM means you can have more apps open simultaneously without slowing down.

Absolutely normal! These head units are complete replacement systems with their own GPS antenna, microphone, and Bluetooth module. Your factory connectors for these features won't be needed anymore. The important connections are: main power harness, speaker outputs, and the yellow RCA cable (even if not using a camera - it extends Bluetooth range). Any leftover factory plugs can be safely tucked away. If you're unsure about any connection, our support team is here 7 days a week.

Z-Link updates are handled through system firmware updates. Go to Settings → System → System Update. If an update is available, download it to a USB drive (FAT32 format) and install. Important: Never download Z-Link APKs from unofficial sources - they won't work and may cause issues. If you're having compatibility issues with newer iOS versions, the disable/enable workaround (Settings → Apps → Z-Link) usually resolves them while waiting for official updates.

    Consider your usage:
2/32GB (4-Core): Budget option - fine for basic use, but may lag with multiple apps due to 4-Core processor and limited RAM
4/64GB (8-Core): Sweet spot - smooth Android Auto/CarPlay, multitasking, and ample storage
8/128GB (8-Core): Premium choice - unlimited multitasking, massive storage, future-proof for years

Most customers choose 4/64GB for the perfect balance of performance and value. The extra RAM makes a huge difference in daily smoothness!

The yellow RCA cable's blue antenna wires also boost WiFi signal! Make sure this cable is connected. Additionally, try these tips: Position the blue antenna wires away from metal surfaces, check that your phone's hotspot is set to 2.4GHz (not 5GHz) for better range, and ensure the head unit's WiFi sleep policy is set to 'Never' in Settings → WiFi → Advanced. For best performance with wireless CarPlay, keep your phone within 1-2 meters of the head unit.

Go to Settings → Sound → Equalizer and adjust to your preference. For more volume, increase the 'Loudness' setting. The 4/64GB and 8/128GB models have superior audio chips that provide cleaner, louder sound. If you have an amplifier, use the RCA outputs for best quality. Also check Settings → Factory Settings (password usually 126) → Audio settings for additional gain controls. Remember: higher-spec models (4GB+) include premium audio components for noticeably better sound.
